About Heysham

With flower-festooned cottages and incredible sea views, this historic village exudes charm.

The views over Morecambe Bay are particularly emotive at the ruins of St Patrick’s Chapel, an Anglo-Saxon religious building and medieval pilgrimage spot which features ancient graves carved straight into the headland (they appeared on a famous Black Sabbath album cover).

The neighbouring St Peter’s Church has stacks of history too, yet it remains a working church to this day. Step inside to see the Hogback Stone, a richly carved tombstone that’s over 1,000 years old!

Heysham Heritage Centre lets you really explore the village’s past, with an abundance of photos and trinkets exploring its heyday as a 1950s seaside resort. You’ll find guides on the Heysham Nature Reserve here too, a nearby wetland that’s filled with beautiful butterflies and migrating birds.

And don’t miss the town’s lovely selection of cafes, pubs and popular fish ‘n’ chip shop.
