About The Isle of Portland
Attached as it is to Chesil Beach this so-called isle is really more a peninsula. Truthfully, it has everything you’d want from an island retreat - incredible wild coastline, stunning views of the mainland, distinctive heritage and sailing waters so good that the National Sailing Academy is based here!
Portland is an easy drive from Weymouth, yet it still retains that laidback feel unique to islands. Here you can take things slowly, enjoying some isolation as you spot migrating birds at Portland Bill, admire panoramas of the Jurassic Coast from the top of a lighthouse or stroll through an atmospheric sculpture park.
Or choose to be active! The island’s limestone cliffs are tailor-made for climbing and abseiling while the harbour is ideal for sailing, paddle boarding, and kayaking; it’s where the 2012 Olympic sailing events were held after all!
