A look at Newquay’s breweries & best bars
After spending a day surfing or on a trek across the Cornish countryside, there’s nothing better than sitting back and enjoying a nice drink and bite to eat. Newquay has a range of independent breweries and bars, so visitors can taste a real slice of Cornwall on their holiday.
We’ve spoken to locals Susan Deakin, Manager of Visit Newquay and her colleague Amy Smith, Senior Assistant, to find the best bars to visit when staying at our Cornwall holiday parks.
Breweries in Newquay
Newquay is home to several breweries, Amy tells us, “Lots of microbreweries are setting up. You will find them dotted around quite a lot now.
Newquay Brewing [Project] started up within the last couple of years and they’re becoming really popular and getting their stuff out in the local bars. There's one called Lost Brewing and they do a lot of the local things.”
The Newquay Brewing Project is a microbrewery producing vegan Cornish craft beer. Lost Brewing Co. has over 40 craft beers and is a cafe during the day, serving breakfast and burgers.
Amy adds, “We've got The Bearded Brewery, which is in the countryside. So it's a completely different vibe and that's just outside of Newquay, [in the] countryside surrounded by fields, they do event nights [with] cider, pizza, food, live music.“
Bars in Newquay
Nothing quite beats a refreshing cold drink in the afternoon sun, Susan recommends, “Porth [Beach] is another place for a family with a nice place called The Mermaid Inn on the beach, a pub where you can get some food and lots of chairs outside, it’s one of my favourites it’s a lovely place.”
The Mermaid Inn is dog-friendly and children are also welcome, located on Porth Beach you can sip on a drink from local distilleries and breweries taking in the beautiful sea view.
Susan also tells us about other bars in Newquay, “The Stable which is a pizza and cider kind of place with phenomenal views over Fistral, [it’s] really nice in there - great pizzas! If you want a cocktail and pizza you go somewhere like The Secret Garden, which is really nice.”
The Stable serves locally brewed pints whilst the pizzas are made with fresh sourdough and locally-sourced Cornish rapeseed oil and sea salt. Visitors to The Secret Garden can enjoy local Cornish beers, organic wine and artisan pizzas, with outside seating so you can soak in the stunning coastal views.
Susan continues, “Most of them are small little independents, like a place called Toast, a little bar with tapas, but just really nicely done.” Toast Cafe & Wine Bar is a family-run business that serves tapas until 9.30 pm.
